Household Hazardous Waste

Meeker County is part of a regional program to control Household Hazardous Waste. Our region is headed by Kandiyohi County. Because of this regional program, Meeker residents can bring HHW to the Kandiyohi County facility at any time during their normal business hours, usually at no cost. Below you will find more detailed information regarding specific types of Household Hazardous Waste.

The next HHW collection will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 9 - 11 a.m. at the Meeker County Fair Grounds.  This is free to all Meeker residents.  Use the 10th Street entrance.  See event poster below for additional details.

Meeker County holds a household hazardous waste collection event each year on the third Saturday of September. The collection is always held at the Meeker County Fairgrounds and is heavily advertised in County newspapers and on KLFD radio.

Accepted Items

Examples of the types of waste accepted at the collection are:
  • Home and garden pesticides
  • Paint and stain
  • Wood preservatives
  • Pool chemicals
  • Cleaning agents
  • Hobby supplies
  • Thinners/solvents/flammables
  • Acids and bases (caustics)

Unaccepted Items

Examples of types of waste not accepted at the collection are:
  • Out-of-county waste
  • Business waste
  • Unidentified wastes
  • Compressed gas
  • Explosives
  • Radioactive materials
  • Tires
  • Car batteries
  • Fluorescent or incandescent bulbs
  • Electronics
  • Appliances
