Trainings required prior to licensing:

  1. Required Normalcy and Reasonable and Prudent Parenting Standard
  2. Sudden/Unexpected Infant Death (SUID)  video (see links below)

The Department of Human Services has approved the following series of videos to meet the SUID component when individuals are not receiving face-to-face, classroom, or online SUID training. All videos must be viewed to meet the SUID training requirement.

Please Note:  The videos below include portrayals of infant sleep environments in private, non-licensed, homes that are not subject to the requirements of Minnesota Statutes, section 245A.1435.  Licensed child care providers must comply with statutory safe sleep requirements when sleeping infants including nothing in the crib except for an infant’s pacifier. In addition, attachments or modifications to the crib are prohibited.

   3. Abusive Head Trauma (AHT) video

The Department of Human Services has approved the following series of videos to meet the AHT component when license holders are not receiving face-to-face, classroom, or online AHT training. All videos must be viewed to meet the AHT training requirement.

After Licensing Training Options: 12 CEU’s required per year:

Pre-Approved ongoing Mental Health Credits: Minimum requirement - 1 hour per year.

Childrens Mental Health for Resource Families  Depression  (1.5 Hours  Classroom) *This training provides 1.5 hours of overview of a common mental health diagnosis that foster and adoptive children often present within the child welfare system. Depression will be discussed in terms of origins, symptoms, behaviors, treatment, interventions and cultural considerations. This course meets the annual training requirement in MN Statute 245A. Childrens Mental Health for Resource Families  Obsessive Compulsive Disorder  OCD  (1.5 Hours ) *This training provides 1.5 hours of overview of a common mental health diagnosis that foster and adoptive children may present within the child welfare system. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) will be discussed in terms of origins, symptoms, behaviors, treatment, interventions and cultural considerations.  Childrens Mental Health for Resource Families  Autism  (1.5 hours )* This training provides 1.5 hours of overview of a common mental health diagnosis that foster and adoptive children may present within the child welfare system. Autism will be discussed in term of origins, symptoms, behaviors, treatment, interventions and cultural considerations. Childrens Mental Health for Resource Families  Anxiety (1.5 Hours-Classroom)*

This training provides a 1.5 hours overview of a common mental health diagnosis that foster and adoptive children often present within the child welfare system. Anxiety will be discussed in terms of main origins, symptoms, behaviors, treatment, interventions, and cultural considerations. This course meets the annual training requirement in MN Statute 245A. Childrens Mental Health for Resource Families- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder -ADHD (1.5 Hours- Classroom)**

This training provides a 1.5 hours overview of a common mental health diagnosis that foster and adoptive children often present within the child welfare system. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder will be discussed in terms of origins, symptoms, behaviors, treatment, interventions, and cultural considerations.
