Household Hazardous Waste

Household Hazardous Waste, or HHW, is defined as "chemical products such as cleaning solvents, paints, pesticides, disposed of by residential consumers.  These wastes may also contain substances that can catch fire, react with other chemicals, explode, or a re corrosive or toxic."   These items should NOT EVER be thrown away in the garbage with other household trash as they are very damaging to the environment.  
Examples of common HHW include:
Adhesives
Latex and oil-based paints
Paint thinners and strippers
Grease and rust solvents
Wood and metal cleaners
Household polishes and cleaners
Oven cleaners
Drain openers
Lighter fluids
Fungicides and wood preservatives
Insecticides, herbicides, and rodent poisons
Used oil and oil filters
Fuel injection and carburetor cleaners
Antifreeze
Non-alkaline batteries
Broken thermometers containing mercury

Meeker County does not have a HHW facility, but because of agreements in place with Kandiyohi and McLeods Counties, Meeker residents may utilize these neighboring facilities for proper disposal of their HHW, AT NO COST.  Below is the location/contact info for each facility.
