Adopt- A-Highway Program

The Adopt-A-Highway Program

The Adopt a Highway Program in Meeker County began in 2024. This program allows interested citizens and local organizations an opportunity to contribute to their community by adopting a segment of county highway and helping to keep roadsides free of litter.

Groups involved in the program have their names placed on an informational sign along their segment that lets the traveling public know who is helping to remove trash along that portion of roadway. The program aims to encourage positive public relations between Meeker County and its citizens, organizations and businesses.

The Cleanup Process

Participating groups agree to clean up its roadway segment at least two times each year for a minimum of two years. Meeker County Public Works provides high visibility safety vests, trash bags, and safety training material. The organization or individuals notify Public Works when they plan to clean the roadside, when the bags have been filled, and where the filled trash bags have been placed. Public Works employees will then pick up and dispose of the filled trash bags.

How do I get Started?

Interested participants should complete an Adopt-A-Highway Permit and email it to Meeker.Publicworks@co.meeker.mn.us or contact the Meeker County Public Works Department for more information on how to get started.
